Renew a Driver’s License in Louisiana

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) allows customers to renew their IDs or licenses up to 180 days before expiration. Renew your license or ID:

Renew LA License Online

The quickest and easiest way to renew your Louisiana is online. However, online renewal is only allowed if you do NOT have to make any changes to your license information.

If eligible, you can renew online by:

  1. Visiting the Department of Public Safety (DPS) online portal.
  2. Choosing either driver’s license OR Identification card renewal.
  3. Certifying you are eligible to renew your license or ID.
  4. Entering your driver’s license or ID number and date of birth.
  5. Providing any other information requested and your payment information for the renewal fee. The OMV accepts the following credit cards:

Renew Your Louisiana Driver’s License by Mail

Louisiana drivers eligible to renew by mail should receive an invitation before their license expires.

To renew by mail:

  1. Check the renewal notice to make sure you can renew by mail. If you need to change any of your license information, you’ll need to renew in person.
  2. Fill out and sign the provided application.
  3. Enclose a check made payable to the “Office of Motor Vehicles” for the amount owed.
  4. Mail your items to the address provided in your renewal documents.
